How To Draw Mickey Mouse | Tutorial

Posted on

So I get a lot of requests to do tutorials for drawing and I have always been quite apprehensive.

However last night I filmed a video demonstrating how to draw Mickey Mouse.

It was the first tutorial I have ever done so I’m not great at it but if you do enjoy it and find it helpful please let me know because I would love to do more in the future.

Also, if you have any requests as to who I should do a tutorial on next please do let me know.

Hope you enjoy,

The Fault In Our Stars | Drawing

Posted on

It’s no longer news at this stage that I am a huge fan of John Green and in turn his wonderful YA novel The Fault In Our Stars, so in celebration of the movie poster being released back in January I drew the movie poster which features Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort who play Hazel Grace Lancaster and Augustus Waters respectively.

TFIOS drawing

This drawing is probably the most challenging one I have drawn to date because of all the features I had to contend with.

First off there are two people. A drawing with just one person can be difficult at the best of times, add any more and it becomes a real challenge.

Second factor is the various materials and textures I had to draw which take up most of the drawing; hair, clothing, and grass, three very difficult textures to draw accurately.

Finally, drawing someone upside-down and making it look convincing!! This proved most difficult.

Hopefully I pulled it off. Do let me know what you think of the drawing though (but please don’t be too harsh on me ;))

Artist’s Block

The last time I actually sat down and completed a drawing was back in July when I drew this.

Since then I have attempted many other drawings, but none were coming out to my satisfaction and I developed artist’s block.

I have done a few paintings since then, but painting is not my forte so I would really like to get back into drawing, but how?

That is the burning question. How do you get over artist block? Similarly, how do you get over writers block? Or any kind of creative block you may be facing.

Normally my advise would be to walk away and only come back when you feel in a good mood about what you are trying to accomplish. But seeing as I haven’t been able to complete a drawing since July, I think I need to bring in some reinforcements.

So, my question to you is, what do you do when you are finding yourself unable to complete something you love to do?

Tips, comments, suggestions, advice, all is welcome!

Darren Criss | Drawing WIP

Posted on

Apologies for my lack of posts lately but I have actually been working on a new drawing which has taken up a lot of my free time.

I have been drawing for quite a few years now and still cannot seem to draw hair realistically at all. It is quite frustrating actually. Alas I am determined to get it looking better this time so I am taking my time and putting a lot of effort into it in this drawing, which is once again back to good ole faithful Darren Criss (I believe this is my 8th or 9th Darren Criss drawing now?!)

The only problem with drawing Darren Criss, and trying to draw his hair properly, is he has black curly hair. From my experience drawing, I find light coloured, straight hair the easiest to draw, so I not only have the difficult task of drawing curly hair, it’s also dark so this should be interesting.

Anyhow, this is my progress so far…

Please let me know what you think so far, keeping in mind it is only half-finished.

Hopefully I will have the completed drawing up within a week or so.
